What Will My Child Learn From This Story?

A dilemma that some parents face is whether or not to introduce their children to certain classics because they have some questionable scenes or characters. For instance, the epic, “The Odyssey” presents the strong moral hero, Odysseus, who faces some more adult-like vices like lust. Hence, Good and True Media has taken some of the renowned classics and made them more kid friendly without removing the elegant language or the essence of the story.

Poetic Primers focuses on the virtues that each of the heroes embodies and the poetic language of each story. In the back of each is a character development section which explains the virtues and vices present in the story and offers reflection questions for the children to relate those virtues and vices to their own lives. Together with beautiful illustrations, Poetic Primers allow younger readers to experience the epic tales of the old classic heroes while still fostering their innocence.

MY HOPE

I hope the Poetic Primers provide a virtue-filled introduction to the classic tales of Western Civilization. The Odyssey has been retold a thousand ways but I tried to make this retelling unique by taking the nursery rhyme and elevating it to child-friendly poetry.

Meet the Illustrator

Carles Arbat

Carles was born in Bescanó, a little village in Catalonia, Spain. As a child, he was a very curious boy and often glued to “his treasure”, a box of color pencils. He used to spend countless hours scribbling on papers. On one occasion, his creative mind inspired him to paint the family dining room which made his parents quite furious. Some years later, he studied at Olot’s Art School and graduated in 1997 with a degree in Graphic Design. He immediately began his career as an illustrator for educational projects, magazines, and children’s books. He has been very busy ever since and currently lives in Barcelona where he continues to fill pages with color.
